Without protection, they may damage sensitive electronic equipment and reduce the service life of electrical installations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Does an SPD Work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Under normal operating conditions, an SPD has little or no effect on the electrical system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When a voltage surge occurs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Normal Voltage \u2192 Surge Detected \u2192 SPD Conducts \u2192 Excess Energy Diverted \u2192 Equipment Protected<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SPD limits the excessive voltage by diverting surge current through an appropriate path, helping keep the voltage at the protected equipment below a damaging level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the transient surge has passed, the SPD returns to its normal high-impedance state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Note: An SPD is not a substitute for circuit breakers, fuses, or earthing.
