That instrument was the galvanometer. These were used to measure resistance and voltage using a Wheatstone bridge.<br>These galvanometers were bulky and delicate.<\/p>\n<p>In 1920, a British Post Office engineer, Donald Macadie, is credited with inventing the very first multimeter.&nbsp; so he created one tool that could measure amperes, volts, and ohms.
