Enclosure Material
Electrical enclosures are specially designed cabinets that hold industrial components. Main purpose for these cabinets. They protect the components, instruments from their surrounding environment. They come in all shapes and sizes to accommodate any situation.
So basically the panels which are located in the cold rooms like ice cream factory, vegetable storage where the temperature is 10ºC to -20ºC degree. There we always need to use Stainless Steel (SS) material enclosure. Because SS material does not rust easily, it has low carbon sustains as compere to mild steel.
Basically two type of grades in Stainless Steel we are using for electrical enclosures.
SS304
SS316

Enclosure IP ratting or NEMA rating
IP (Ingress Protection) or NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association)
both ratings are the degree of protection against solid and liquid.
But NEMA ratings are used exclusively for electrical enclosure and IP ratings can be used for electrical enclosures and all king of devices.
IP (Ingress Protection) Ratting
The IP rating classifies the degree of protection provided by an enclosure for electrical equipment with a rated voltage not exceeding 72.5 kV.
IP followed by two digits, the higher the number the better the protection and this is European standard.
And mostly we use IP ratting for electrical enclosure.
We use IP66 electrical enclosure where the temperature is as low as 0ºC to -20ºC such as cold area, some food industries (ice cream, vegetable storage etc.).
IP66 = First Digit for solids
IP66 = Second Digit for Liquids
NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association)
The NEMA rating is American standard this stands for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association which is set the standards for electrical enclosure.
We use 3R or 3RX electrical enclosure where the temperature is as low as 0ºC to -20ºC such as cold area, some food industries (ice cream, vegetable storage etc.).
Electrical device IP rating
When we are designing for the cold rooms like ice cream factory, vegetable storage where the temperature is 10ºC to -20ºC degree. There we always need to check each and every instrument or electrical components.
And the IP rating for the components we can check in the datasheet or component manual.
Ex: We want to check the IP rating of MCB “A9F74210” (Schneider Make) .
so we can directly search the part number in Google
